The Russian concept of sobornost, a deep unity of mind, heart, and soul, is one of Catherine Doherty’s greatest contributions to Western spirituality. It is based on a deep, respectful listening to the other and to the Holy Spirit. Because the Holy Trinity, the perfection of unity, lives in the heart of each baptized person, this oneness with God and each other is a journey on which we are each invited, a goal towards which we can and must strive. In our polarized world, rife with divisions among nations, within cultures, in our families and in our own hearts, sobornost is of timely importance.
